Muggle water balloons were such simple objects, yet so affect at disruption. Especially when used with just the smallest bit of magic, because even the smallest pranks were amusing to Jayson Abercrombie. Currently he had one hundred water balloons, although only ten were filled for now. Said ten were suspended near the ceiling of the corridor with a simple wingardium leviosa. He was just around the corner, his head peeking over to watch for an unsuspecting passerby.
Today, Jay didn't have a partner in crime, he had just been bored and found some old water balloons in his trunk that he had packed from the leftovers this past summer. He figured soaking someone would be atleast mildly amusing, plus he needed the distraction from everything that seemed to be going on recently. So he had gone into the boys bathroom, filled some of the balloons and picked a random corridor. Of course this involved skipping a class, since he needed them to be mostly empty and would be waiting for just one student going to the bathroom or having a free period. It was worth it, classes were terribly boring anyway.
With a grin, Jayson heard footsteps approaching, his head still peeking out to see who it was, his wand out, holding the balloons in the air until the perfect moment to drop them on the person.

Alice had been bored that fine afternoon, staring at whatever was in the back of Professor Binns' head seeing as he was a ghost, and quite a boring one at that. He had no spells to teach, nothing but a stupid drawl on and on about the same thing she could not care nearly as much about. Her friends could help her later on with homework, but for now she wanted anything but to stay in this room. Her foot twitched, rolling her eyes and doodling notes on her parchment. She had to get up and move around or something; she couldn't just sit there hardly listening.
After hardly any mental debate, she raised her hand and her several equally bored students turned to look at her, many with their heads collapsed on their desks, puddles of drool forming on the pages. " Professor? May I go to the bathroom? " She gave a plastic smile and the ghost nodded, gesturing a fist pump of triumph. Finally.
She stood up from her seat, finally walking out of the room where she could practically smell boredom and drifted along the corridor. Thankfully, the 'bathroom' she sought was already on this floor, but it wasn't like she was going there. She could talk to Myrtle and get irritated of someone almost equally as annoying as she, or she could aimlessly wander the corridors. Clearly, she chose the second option.
Alice twirled her hair on her finger, clicking her flats as she walked around. If she'd known the balloons were hovering directly above her head, she would have been screaming in an instant. Of course, the best victim was the unsuspecting one...

Waiting was truly the worst feeling in the world, sitting and watching, anticipation building up. For some reason, Jayson found he always had to go to the bathroom when he was waiting for something like this, probably because taking a piss was more exciting than just standing here. He was obviously one of the most impatient people at Hogwarts, it was worse than any punishment a teacher could come up with, a real punishment would be forcing him to stand and wait for them to pick a punishment. So Jayson watched Alice approach the floating balloons, it was like slow motion, the build up driving him insane until finally she was underneath and he flicked his wand causing them to descend.
Alice was a Paper Angel, although in a different house and year from Jayson, he still knew her decently well. She also was doing the commentary for the quidditch games, which meant he was certain she knew him, he was a rather wonderful keeper in his opinion, his name was mentioned a ton during the games. He was a bit cocky about it though, he might not actually be as good as he liked to think, but atleast he was decent.
As the balloons crashed onto and around the girl, Jayson threw his arms up in triumph, excited to see someone being soaked at his hands. Since he knew the girl, and was on good terms with her, he figured he didn’t need to hide anymore. So he tucked away his wand, stepping around the corner into Alice’s view, a cocky grin on his lips. ”I got you good,” he announced with a smirk, looking her up and down, watching water drip off her now soaked clothing and hair. It had turned out so perfect, nothing could ruin his good mood now.
Of course, Jayson didn’t know Alice as well as he figured he did, he had know idea how sensitive and a bit of a drama queen was, other wise he would have waited for someone else, or atleast ran after dropping the balloons. He was expecting her to laugh, maybe call him a mean name and retaliate, either one would amuse him. Jay was not use to bad reactions from people, unless they were enemies whom he wanted a bad reaction from.

Her boredom was eased as she focused on brushing dirt off of her shoes and whistled a cheery Muggle tune. She felt content at the time, breathing in the castle air and attempted to walk in the general direction of the bathroom in case she got caught. Little did Alice know, a boy familiar to her was waiting just around the corner, releasing the hover charm off of the ten balloons. She heard a whooshing sound and tilted her head upward, staring at the balloons inflated with a liquid. "Wha..?"
A crash. Alice, being the clumsy girl she was, fell flat on her arse on the floor. She was soaked in water from her neatly curled hair to toe. Her robes were drenched, and hell, that water was cold. Her lower lip began to quiver and a few tears dotted her eyes, spilling down her cheeks. Her unfortunate sensitivity caused her to cry, and cry often. Who would be cruel enough to prank poor, innocent Alice? She didn't do anything wrong! She was just wandering to get out of a pointless class... she hardly thought she deserved such a cruel prank.
She shuddered a bit, freezing, and the warm tears dribbling down her cheeks didn't help her feel any better. She sniffled; she was no better than Moaning Myrtle at the moment. Prefects and teachers would probably think it was her. She looked at the figure around the corner who bore an arrogant smile. A pout and more sobs. "Y.. you did this, Jase?" She thought using her nice nickname (petname? she preferred nickname) for him would make him feel more human. She sniffled and wiped her tears, making a huge scene of it all. "W..what did I ever d-do to you?" She wailed and whimpered. She tried to think of a drying charm or something to help ease her from being soaked in cold water balloons and tears, but she was overcome with what she did wrong.
Alice thought they were on relatively good terms. Sure, she was a year younger than him and heard of his mischief, but didn't think he'd prank her. She might have knocked into him or something but she didn't think she did anything bad. She knew him from Quidditch matches, noting his exquisite form and fairly good Keeping. He was good and she admired his skill; her father was a Keeper for Gryffindor, too! Did she say something wrong when Gryffindor lost a game? "I.. I'm.. sorry!" she sobbed, still tearing up a bit.

At first Jayson really didn’t notice the tears, mainly because she was so dripping wet it was hard to make out the tears from the water. So he was still grinning, amused by his small water balloon prank. Jayson was more into small or simple pranks, one you couldn’t get into too much trouble for, not blowing things up. He more so liked to be a nuisance at the school, not a delinquent. Not to mention people knew what to expect from him, he was actually generally liked around the school, people found him fun, funny and a good guy. He seemed to be messing that up today.
When he heard her sniffle and sob, he knew then, his grin dropping from his face immediately when she finally spoke. She sounded so sad and broken, it made his chest hurt a little, he wasn’t use to feeling bad or guilty like this. He would do anything to make her stop crying right now, he just couldn’t think of anything to actually do. Most people were annoyed, some people laughed it off, he’d never made anyone cry like this before though. He really hadn’t been expecting it, but atleast now he knew not to prank Alice Wood.
Her question made her frown, shaking his head quickly, she had never done anything to him he was just having fun. ”I…you didn’t do anything!” he assured, having no clue what to do with a cry girl. The only time he’d been around a crying girl was once when he broke off one of his silly relationships, he had just walked away. ”Here,” he said quickly, moving to kneel in front of her, casting a drying charm, clearing up all the water and whatever tears had been running down her face at that moment, but more came anyway. ”Don’t be sorry! It was just a joke! I wasn’t made or anything!” he tried to explain, speaking a bit fast, feeling defensive and guilty all at once. He wanted to defend his actions to rid himself of his guilt. Jay also wanted to kick himself for being an asshole.
”What can I do to make you stop?” he asked, a pained look on his face, pleading with her to stop crying. He truly hated making her cry, it was a terrible feeling to be the cause of anyone’s tears, unless you disliked the person. ”I really didn’t mean to upset you,” he added softly, dropping his head to look at the ground between them, feeling really bad about upsetting her. He had not known how sensitive she really was, he would have to think more about who he was pranking, make sure they weren’t going to have such a reaction. He could deal with someone being angry, annoyed, trying to curse him, but not a girl crying.

While Jayson was the one pulling pranks, Alice was usually the one falling into such simple traps. She still thought gullible was written on the ceiling but couldn't find it. She believed in everything she heard, still thought Santa would come this Christmas (was he a Wizard? She wondered) and that sixty-eight point five percent of facts were made up. She would be so naive as to fall into such traps so easily, it was usually the butt of others' jokes. Perhaps that was why Jayson was trying to get her--she was such an easy target, she'd fall for anything. Not only was she smothered with water balloons, but she fell on her arse too. Hard.
It wasn't that she didn't like Jayson--she did! He was a nice guy and she was a nice girl. Simple. She just didn't like it when this happened. She ended up on her butt, tearing up because of a little Muggle prank she couldn't handle. She also hated that she cried so easily about it and got hurt so fast, by the smallest of things. Another tear rolled down her cheek as she wallowed in the depths of self pity. Yes, wallowed. She was just so miserable about it, exaggerating the pain to ten higher levels while trying to keep her sobs to a minimum.
The drying charm Jayson cast was appreciated, but ineffective. Her tears remained, wetting her cheeks as she continued to pout at the seventh year. " A... a joke? " She whimpered. " Why'd you pull a joke on me? But.. I.. I thought we were friends.. " She wiped stray tears from her cheeks, sniffling.
Alice picked at a loose thread on her robe and looked back up at the boy. He was sincerely apologizing with his eyes and wanted to help her. It just touched her heart. " I.. you.. " Her mind raced. What would make her feel better? She just got knocked on her arse by a bunch of balloons and cold water. There wasn't much he could do. With a sad smile, she sniffed again. " A hug would be nice. " The smile warmed up a bit, tearing up a little more from the kindness that made up for it. He seemed like a sweet boy. Yes, a boy; he was still making practical jokes on a girl younger than him. She thought Jayson was a boy. Inside, she was still offended by the fact he meant to pull a prank on her. It still hurt her feelings, but it was Alice. She was a very forgiving girl, even for something as big as hitting her with water balloons.

Jayson really was at a loss in this situation, he truly hated crying girls, even growing up when his sister had cried as a child he would always apologize and cheer her up. It was just in his personality, he couldn’t stand crying girls. Even those mean girls, such as most of the Slytherin’s, he truly hated when they would, even if they tended to be bitches to him. There was just something wrong with girls crying, they were beautiful and sensitive, soft, even the mean ones, because every girl hard emotions. Guys were different, more tough, better at holding back, plus he wasn’t drawn to guys so they could deal with their problems on their own.
When she mentioned thinking they were friends, he quickly nodded. ”We are! I was going to prank whoever, you just came and I thought it was funny,” his voice lowered at the last part, feeling unsure, apparently it was far from funny. ”It was not personal at all, I really like you Alice,” he assured, his face very serious as his eyes locked with hers, his face close as he kneeled down on the ground in front of her.
At the mention of a hug, Jayson easily wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close, he was good with hugs. Although, he still could tell she was upset, hug or no hug, she had taken this personally and was thinking he had a problem with her. ”Want to do something? We can hang out, I like hanging out with you,” he added, wanting to make sure she knew he did like her as a person, he had no problems with her or anything against her.
Sometimes Jayson did pull pranks because he disliked a person, but generally they were just for the fun of it. Most of his friends expected such things, and retaliated with a prank of their own, but clearly Alice was a very sensitive person, the most sensitive person he’d ever known. It was likely that he would end up sucking up to her for months now, not to mention walking on eggshells because he’d be afraid of upsetting her again.

Alice, ever since she was a wee little girl, always was making noise. Before she could talk, she slammed her fists on her high chair. She whined and cried over getting her bottle or paci taken away. She was lonely without her mother before she went to sleep. She always wanted something -- if it wasn't to get a diaper change, food, or milk, it was attention. She would cry everywhere - the supermarket, home, on walks, anywhere. After she stopped crying and started talking, she ran her mouth off to anyone within a mile radius of her. And she still craved the spotlight and remained a drama queen.. as one could see from her current spouting of tears.
Glaring up at Jayson through her watery eyes was a frown, almost angry. " It's not funny to watch someone fall to the ground and get hurt! Or get splattered with water balloons. What if it was a teacher?! " She whimpered. Of course, Alice should have assumed he couldn't care less if it was a teacher or not -- he set up the prank for anyone and everyone -- and ditched class to do it. There she was, always with her silly questions.
He muttered about how he indeed liked her and her face lit up. If she was a dog, her tail would have been wagging. " Really? You do? " Almost like that, the moaning and groaning and grief was wiped off of her face (don't have a dirty mind, now!). She flung her arms around the much taller boy, a big grin on her face with his warmth around her shivering figure. How sweet of him to do something so cruel and take it back instantly. With words and a hug. Hugs could fix anything, she thought. Although she would never forget the devastation that had been done to her emotions, making her a complete wreck, she had forgiven him rather quickly. At least he didn't say anything mean to her. Then she'd REALLY have to cry.
Alice glanced back in the direction of her History of Magic classroom with the opposite of longing. She only got out to escape, which she'd done successfully, and by the time she got back, Binns would likely have dismissed them. They probably thought there was something wrong with her bowels since she'd been taking so long-- not to mention the crying. It was quite humorous, really, that this unfortunate event wound up with her on her arse yet giving her exactly what she wanted -- time. Out of that boring classroom.
" Hmm.. well, you do have to make up for it somehow, methinks. " She tapped her chin, using her silly terminology. " Okay! I'd love to go somewhere with you. " At the mention of him liking to hang out with her, she felt like she was glowing. He didn't have evil intentions to kill her with plastic party favors!

When Alice began seeming angry, Jay cringed, crying and then possible yelling while still crying. Not a good situation. Finally she seemed excited and smiled, he gave a sigh of relief. He wasn’t sure how long a girl could cry for, but he thought she would never stop. To see her face light up when he said he liked her, he caused him to grin, happy to have made her happy. He was certain he had never meant such an emotional person, especially the quick change. For a minute he wondered if she ever considered being bi-polar, but clearly he couldn’t ask, that would lead to a ton of tears and possible cursing.
Jayson returned her hug, rubbing her back in a soothing way like his mom would when he was a child. That was what she sort of reminded him of, a child, with how easily she cried and how easy it was to cheer her up again. Not that he had much experience with children, his sister was only two years younger so he wasn’t old enough to have ever taken care of her as kids. He was pretty certain he didn’t want children in the future though, sounded like too much work, plus they seemed selfish. Seriously, what did they give you? Love? Sounds like a dog, except more work. Yes, Jayson would just get himself a dog when he got older, children were unnecessary.
Her previous reaction sort of made him feel on edge though, like he might set her off at any minute. He tried to remind himself that he had been friends with her before now and never made her cry, so he should act normal, just no pranking this time. Jay knew she was a good person and could be a lot of fun, this had just been a bad moment for both of them.
When she said she wanted to hang out with him, Jayson stood up, holding his hand out to her. ”Are you sneaking off from class then?” he asked with a grin, feeling like he was corrupting her, which made him happy and amused him all at once. ”What do you want to do? I think you get to decide, since I’m suppose to be sucking up to you,” he said, the last part was just a joke though, she he gave her a playful smile.

Alice had no idea of how wide range her emotions were. She was extremely 'bipolar', in a way; she didn't have any control over her responses to anything. People had to be extremely cautious with their interactions with her; she was very reactive no matter what someone would tell her. She could burst into tears or get into a fit of rage if someone tripped her. She wouldn't take things very lightly at all, unless their bond was already very close and she had been experienced with their methods of teasing. And Jayson had just learned it was not a very good idea to pull a prank on Alice, even with something as simple as balloons and water. The brunette was much of a crybaby, which was the subject of much teasing. That would make her cry even more.
The way that Jayson caressed her back calmed her down, stabilizing her breath and giving her time to settle herself. Her feathers had been ruffled by his actions, and she was tempted to fold her arms and pout her way out of it. The pitiful boy had already given her a hug; he would likely be her personal House Elf or something if she asked. He seemed so ... determined to make her feel better, and it made her beam. Jayson was a sweet boy; he didn't seem to have evil intentions. He was a Paper Angel, after all. His actions made her a bit happier than they should; it perked her ears and made her wag her tail. The hopeless romantic in her was quieter than usual; perhaps it was her affinity for Dominic preventing her from her normal rushing thoughts of "Oh my God, he loves me. See, he'd do anything for me and he really wants to help me out! What a sweetheart! He must be the right one, I know he is!" Even if she'd recited that speech in her brain many times, almost habitually.
She dabbed the tears from the corners of her eyes, still a bit sensitive. Alice was similar to a timebomb without a clock; you never would know when she would explode. Her actions were often erratic when she wasn't in her happy-go-lucky mood. To her, if her day was bad, it would only get worse.
The sixth year took the boy's hand to help her up. She was extremely physically inept. "Ugh, please save me from Professor Binns and his ramblings. I honestly don't care what happened in the Forbidden Forest eighty years ago." She twisted her mouth in thought and wrinkled her nose. "I have no idea where to go. Kitchens, perhaps? There's a bit of rumbly in my tumbly."
