"and you can tell everybody, that this is your song"
luna lovegood was a dreamer. rolf scamander was a realist. they say that opposites attract, and this was a prime example. there had never been two people that were so different from one another. but that was one of the things they loved about each other.
"what do you think they will be like, rolf?"
"if they are anything like you, then perfect."
lysander was the second born of the twins. because of this, he tended to stay behind his brother growing up, allowing the older twin to take most of the attention. lysander was shy, and rarely talked. instead, he let his brother talk for him, agreeing with anything lorcan had to say.
"have you ever seen a crumple-horned snorkack?"
"no. but that doesn't make them any less real."
lysander was closer to his mother growing up. while lorcan hated her stories because he knew everything in them was imaginary, lysander enjoyed them because everything was imaginary. he would put himself into his mother's stories, creating an imaginary world around himself. when he finally went to muggle school, his brother was placed into a different class. so lysander withdrew into his false world, trying to keep everyone away from him.
"what colour is the sky?"
"purple."
because lysander lived in this imaginary world, he had trouble keeping his marks up. in fact, while his brother was getting straight a's in every class, lysander was having trouble scraping up a d. the only classes he ever did well in was music and creative writing. his stories got incredible praise, for their creativity and thoughtful fiction.
"WOULD YOU STOP PLAYING PRETEND! YOU AREN'T A CHILD!"
luna and rolf believed that lysander's "worlds" would just be a phase. however, when he hit eight years old, he was still pretending that the sky was purple and that boats could fly. lorcan, who was very practical and didn't believe in nonsense, eventually couldn't take the fact that his twin brother was acting like a four year old. it resulted in him screaming at lysander, which shook lysander enough to make him stop pretending. lysander valued his brother over the imaginary land he had created for himself.
"what's your name?"
"ly, i'm not answering for you anymore."
"...lysander."
when the twins turned nine, lorcan decided that his brother needed to talk more. it wasn't practical for someone to be as quiet as lysander was. so lorcan stopped answering for his twin, forcing lysander to speak up if he wanted to be known. this brought him out of his shell more.
"where would you like to go?"
"science camp."
"band camp."
the twins had always been very different, lorcan like his father and lysander like his mother. however, when they turned ten and it was time to pick a summer camp, that was when they realized exactly how different they were. lorcan went off to science camp, while lysander went to band camp and learned to play guitar. his love for music sprouted from that camp, and he absolutely adores his guitar. it's his prized possession.
"scamander, lorcan"
"RAVENCLAW!"
"scamander, lysander"
"RAVENCLAW!"
everyone had been surprised when the twins ended upo in the same house at hogwarts. ravenclaw had been no surprised for lorcan, but people had expected lysander to end up in hufflepuff. after all, the boy got horrible marks, and didn't study. he didn't have much common sense, or street smarts. he was too trusting, gullible and fairly naive. all he cared about was his music, and he spoke nonsense often. but the brothers ended up in the same house. maybe they were more similar than they thought.
