Alex was born to a young witch who's name he doesn't know. She died in childbirth, and no one claimed the baby. Alex spent three years in foster care before he was adopted by a young couple who lacked the ability to have children of their own. His new parents, a man named Mitchell and his wife Susan were good people.
Mitchell, an expatriate of the United States and a Squib from a magical American family, worked as a very skilled chef in France, where he met Susan. Susan, an administrative assistant in the UK's Ministry of Magic, was on vacation when the two of them met. They hit it off, exchanging letters and eventually, Mitch moved in with her as her husband, opening a restaurant where he served American and French styled food. However, that's their story, and this is Alex.
Alex had been named for the doctor and nurse that delivered him, and his original name was Alexander Taylor. Once they adopted him, they changed his name and added in their last name, and thus, Alex had a family.
Life was average for the little boy. He wasn't spoiled, but he was far from deprived; his father always was trying to stimulate his mind, reading to him from a very early age ( which gave Alex an interest in books that would carry out through his school career) and constantly answering the boy's questions, no matter how childish or trivial, and always returned with a question of his own. Alex was a curious child, and he learned everything he could as he got older.
He began to grow and exhibit a slight ability in magic, which brought a sigh of relief to both his parents's mouths. It was much easier to introduce a child to the world of Wizardry when they had their own magic. So while his father taught him things about the Muggle world and how to survive without magic, his mother began to purchase him books about the Magical World, knowing that his appetite for reading would catch him up to a child that was brought up into it.
Alex, after discovering his magical ability at the age of 5 due to falling out of a particularly high tree, gained an interest in the science of potions as he began Hogwarts, noting that it was quite similar to his father's recipes. He had been sorted into Ravenclaw, as a person who loved learning for knowledge's sake. He hasn't shown much in the way of power, but Alex is a huge bookworm, learning everything he can to make up for it. His potionsmaking is a matter of pride to him, and has given rise to other interests that go along with potions, such as herbology and care of magical creatures, as a potionsmaster needed to learn both to have the freshest ingredients handy or know where to find them. Alex has also supplemented his studies with Runes and Arithmancy.
Personality wise, Alex is a very gifted young man. While no genius, Alex is incredibly studious and has a wide range of knowledge on many subjects. While many people who are like him tend to be cold and unfriendly, Alex's upbringing has turned him out to be amiable and warm. He loves to help people that might be struggling with their studies, and will help them even if he doesn't know much about the subject, seeing it as an opportunity to learn. One could say Alex is obsessed with brewing potions, and one would be correct in this assumption. He holds a lot of pride in his skills at potions, showing a creative side much like his father's when it comes to cooking. He has an equal interest in herbology, spending lots of time in the greenhouses when he's not in the library or the Ravenclaw Commons.
Alex is a very logical person for a wizard, something he attributes to his Squib father, who did his best to make sure Alex wasn't as aloof as his own family. He fails to see the point in many wizarding traditions, such as Pureblood supremacy. Alex has long since figured out he is adopted, but couldn't care less. His parents had raised him, and they were his parents. He has a mild interest in his biological mother's heritage, but he doesn't much show it.
He dreams of being one of the most reputed potionsmasters of all time, and works very hard towards his goals.
He carries with him a silver knife with him at all times, just in case he finds certain ingredients, or if he needs protection and his wand is unavailable. His wand is 13 and a half inches, made of yew and dragon heartstring.
