the first floor was absolutely silent. just the way christian liked it.
for years, the slytherin had been using the first floor corridor as his place to escape. because the only things on the floor were classrooms, it was very quiet when classes were over for the day. he used it for a place to be alone and think, or to finish up on homework. most commonly, he just sat there and made wishes on fake stars he created with his wand. it was almost always the same wish. he wanted to be more like his friends and family were. he didn't want to pretend to be someone he wasn't anymore. or, at least, he wanted to be able to show them who he was without them leaving him behind. he was absolutely terrified of being abandoned. he didn't like the feeling of fear. it unsettled him.
christian was in the hallway today because he had homework to do. most of the time, he was fine with finishing up his work in the common room, or the library, but he didn't want to be seen with a muggle studies book. his friends had all dropped the class, saying it was a waste of time, but he liked learning about all the ways muggles got around without magic. it was so interesting, learning the alternative methods to travelling, or turning on a light. one day, he would want to use a computer, or drive a car. but that wouldn't happen, because he was pureblood, and he was a goyle. they didn't associate with anything muggle. not even muggle born wizards.
chris was having trouble concentrating on his text. he was too jumpy, worrying about getting caught. classes had let out awhile ago, but it was possible that someone could still be in the classrooms, speaking to a professor. not to mention, carlisle had said something about detention earlier. what if it was in one of the classrooms on this floor? he heard footsteps coming down the hall and threw his book to the other side of the hallway. it would just look like someone dropped it now. Evelyn stretched her hands over her head, and pushed her legs as far out as she could. She smiled as she got out of bed and walked over to the nearest window, looking out she could see that it was the beginning of a beautiful day; she then remembered that she had class. She sighed heavily and dressed in her robes, ruffled her hair, grabbed her things, and set off towards the Great Hall; she could not miss breakfast. As she was walking down the crowded corridors she smiled at everyone who looked at her. Evelyn was used to people staring at he; she herself did not think she was beautiful in any sort of way, but it seemed as though other people thought so and she tried not to let it go to her head. She was in a very cheerful mood this morning, for whatever reason this was she did not know.
She arrived at the Hufflepuff table while most people where leaving. She did not care much if she was late to potions, though it was one of her best classes, she wasn't in the mood for school work this morning. She filled her plate with random goodies and ate as fast as she could without getting a stomach ache. She took a swig of pumpkin juice and got off setting towards potions finishing her toast just as she walked into class.
After potions she was getting up and all her things fell on the floor. "Of course, just when my day was going so well." she said quietly as she bent over to pick up much of her things. Once she finally acquired all of her fallen items she smiled and fled from the class going up to her next one, which she was dreading just as much. As she was walking she herd a bang like a book or something fell on the floor, she bent own to look at it. It was a Muggle Studies book, she twisted up her face and picked it up looking around the halls; there was only one boy in the hall and he looked pretty twitchy. She walked over to him and saw that he was in Slytherin, she hadn't seen him around or at least hadn't paied attention. "I'm sorry to bother you but is this yours?" she asked a bit nervously, flinching as she awaited the rude remark that was soon to follow.

if it was one of his friends, how would he explain the fact that he was randomly sitting on the floor in the first floor corridor? what could he possibly be doing? his muggle studies book was the only one he had with him, so saying he was studying was out of the question. maybe he could say he knew someone was in one of the classrooms and was waiting for them to come out to hex them. that would work. they would accept that answer, even if it sounded pretty lame. why would he wait for a target when he could easily find another one? he had to be picking on someone they loved to use as a doormat. silas storm? he would work. or a potter. or a weasley.
chris let out a sigh of relief when he saw that the person approaching was not a slytherin. it was a girl, looking rather close to his age. her robes told him that she was hufflepuff, and he had no idea who she was. she was rather pretty though, he noticed, but then shook it off. he was going to marry a pureblood slytherin, like his father wanted him to. he wasn't allowed to date in hogwarts, not unless the girl fit those qualifications.
the hufflepuff girl noticed his book and bent over to pick it up. when she asked if it was his, he hesitated with his answer. if he said yes, she would know he wasn't like most of his slytherin friends. but was that a bad thing? who cared if she knew he was nice. as long as they didn't know, everything was fine. he smiled and nodded. "yes, it is." this would be a chance to be himself, something that was normally hidden. he outstretched his hand for the book. [/blockquote]

Her eyes widened,"Oh! well that's interesting. How come it was down the hall?" she asked a little shocked. She handed him the book and gave him a smile, even though this was a bit weird. She usual avoided Slytherins because she did not like it when people didn't like her; she is a very likeable person as it is, at least she thought so. So she stood there, staring at him like he was going to do a trick or something; she found that she was still waiting for him to go off into a tizzy. But his smile seemed warm enough.
She decided it was time to sit down, so she sat along the nearest wall opposite of him so they could face each other. She was trying to think if she had ever seen him fir him looking familiar, he seemed fairly close in age, maybe a bit younger, older, who knows. After a while she decided to give up, figuring he just had a face that looked like others. While she was sitting there she figured it was very weird that she was just sitting there looking at him so she spoke, "Well, I'm Evelyn Finnigan, and who might you be?" She asked curiously pulling her legs to her chest.

christian watched as the hufflepuff's eyes widened when he replied with something that wasn't a snide remark. chris didn't know why slytherins felt like they had to be so mean to the hufflepuffs, they had never done anything to them. the fued with the gryffindors had been well lit, because the lions fought back. but the hufflepuffs tried to stay out of everything, being the peacekeepers. he didn't see what was so wrong with being loyal. wasn't loyalty a good quality? he took his book, shoving it in his bag so no one would see him carrying it, and then contemplated an excuse for how it had gotten over there. "i dropped it." he said, unconvincingly. he just hoped the girl wouldn't pry.
chris really didn't know how he was supposed to act. nice? mean? slytherinlike? christianlike? or somewhere in between...maybe he would go for neutral. that would work. not have an opinion on the girl either way. he watched as she sat down across from him, and nodded when she introduced herself. he tried to think, if his father had ever mentioned the finnigan family. he couldn't recall anything, which meant she probably wasn't pureblood. his father only ever had any interest in pureblood families. "hello evelyn, i'm christian goyle." he said politely. he hoped his last name wouldn't cause too much of a ruckus. the goyles really did not have a good reputation. for good reason. [/blockquote]

She nodded at his answer, "Ahh I see.." She said dropping the subject. It wasn't really her business what this boy did with his books, besides she didn't want to be a bother in asking about it. This boy was mysterious to her, usually she could read people very well. She cocked her head to the side as she tried to decide why he seemed so difficult, probably because this was a weird situation. Not weird because he was weird, probably more weird because she was weird, but she decided to blame him anyways. It was his personalty, not that she new him or anything, but the fact that he was or seemed confused about what to say to Evelyn.
At the sound of his last name coming out her eyes widened again. "Oh my..I mean Its nice to meet you!" she said quickly. She did not mean to say oh my but she was just so shocked at this moment, I mean a Goyle? Speaking to her? The only other time a Goyle spoke to her was when his sister was upset that she was walking to class too slow. Not to mention everything that her father has said about that whole group, it was slightly frightening. But Evelyn was not one to judge, and she would not judge him just because his whole family is evil, i mean he seemed nice enough so far right? " How come you are by yourself?" she asked him. He seemed way to precious to be alone, and usually if Evelyn saw a cute boy it was flirt city, however, she didn't want to start off being her flirtatious self yet, it would come.

christian was relieved that she didn't push him for answers. if she did, he would have been forced to go slytherin on him, and tell her to mind her own business. he really hoped she would keep her mouth shut about the muggle studies book, or he was going to be in trouble. he would have to come up with a good enough lie to hide the fact that he took the class from his friends. perhaps he could say he had stolen it from a hufflepuff. "yeah. it skidded quite a bit. i was too lazy to get up and pick it up." the lie just got more and more lame.
christian broke his neutral face for a moment to smile at her reaction to his last name. obviously the rumors had hit the hufflepuffs as well as the gryffindors, that his family was bad news. "not what you expected, hm?" he asked with amusement. he ran a hand through his hair and wiped the smile off his face. "nice to meet you as well." despite the fact that his family tended to be rude to anyone they deemed "unworthy", he had been taught manners. in fact, his mother had spent plenty of time teaching him to be a gentleman. "i wanted some quiet. there aren't many places in the castle that aren't bustling with noise."

She nodded, she was sure that he was lying but she didn't say anything about it. She laughed in her head about a Goyle taking muggle studies, she wondered if his father knew about it.She nervously fiddled with her hair as she got up and sat next to him, she figured this would probably annoy him but she didn't really care. "Oh I'm sure it did, books do that a lot. Glad I could pick it up for you, but anyways.." she said smirking a bit, trying to drop the book subject. He was quite intimidating and it was not because of his last name but more his broad shoulders.
She laughed to herself as he said this, "Not quite at all what i expected, I expected and ugly scary looking twit..no offense" She figured that sounded kind of rude, but In her fathers story's that is how he described Goyle, not that they are the same person. She pulled her knees to her chest and rested her head so that she was looking at him, her soft eyes looked him up and down or side to side rather. She hoped he didn't notice that, she had been too scared earlier to get a real good look at him.She smiled at him as she moved her hair out of her face. "Oh, I am sorry that I am Intruding on your quiet place, would you like me to leave?" she asked hopeful, she hadn't had time to make much friends and it was fun to talk to people but she did not want to bother this boy.

evelyn seemed to be a smart girl, and christian knew she didn't believe his lie about dropping the book. but she wasn't pushing for the real reason it had been sitting across the hallway from him, so he didn't continue to say anything. she had dropped the subject, so so would he. he payed no attention to when she stood up and sat next to him. she probably just wanted to be able to hear him better.
chris snorted when she told him what she had expected of a goyle. he didn't blame her either, he had seen pictures of his father in hogwarts. his dad had not been attractive back then, he had been too large, pimplefaced and just plain hideous. gregory goyle wasn't exactly attractive now either, but he wasn't as disgusting to look at as he had been back when he was in school. "well, thank you for saying i'm not ugly and scary looking. from what i remember my7 dad saying about the finnigans, aren't you supposed to have a horrible irish accent?" chris had gotten his looks from his mom, the curly dark hair, the brown eyes, everything.
did he want evelyn to leave? no, she was proving herself to be an interesting person to talk to. but it was probably a good idea to stop speaking to her, he didn't think his friends would be too encouraging of him talking to a hufflepuff all friendly. he contemplated both choices, deciding that what they didn't know wouldn't hurt his friends. he liked being able to be himself for a little while. "you aren't exactly loud. i'm not here to be alone, just for some peace and quiet. talking to you won't give me a headache like the common room will."

She snorted, "You are welcome sir." she wasn't really sure why she thought a Goyle would be ugly and scary, I mean not everyone looked like both their parents. Ah yes the accent, everyone asked, " I try to hide it honestly, it slips out though, especially when im really upset. Half the time I want to talk normal but I am afraid people will make fun of me." Woahhhhh she thought, that was a lot to tell a person , hopefully he didn't make fun of her for feeling that way. Well boyo all I can say is where's me lucky charms laddie?" she started giggling, that sounded so stupid.
Her smiled hadn't faded, Well good, I probably wouldn't have left anyway" she said talking back in normal people voice. Ever since she came to Hogwarts she had been scared of talking in her regular voice, it got tiring after a while and people looked at her funny when she slipped up. She figured the boy would probably laugh at her for sounding funny but oh well it was just him and her there right now. She shook it out of her mind and tried to focus on what he was saying,

christian had never really thought about his pown appearance. he didn't think he was ugly, at least, not as ugly as some people could be. but he had never thought of himself as attractive either, he was just there. hovering on a line in between the two. he listened to her talk about her accent, wondering why she would be made fun of for something as random as that. there were plenty of irish students at hogwarts, and most of them sounded fine. surely his father had overexaggerated the terribleness of the accent this girl's father had had. he raised an eyebrow and stared at her, obviously waiting for her to say something in her accent. he was curious to hear it.
christian couldn't help but crack up when she did speak in it. it wasn't the accent that got him, but the irish slang she used. "oh boy. if you spoke like that, i don't think i'd understand a word that would come out of your mouth. i mean, what the hell are lucky charms?" when she said that she wouldn't have left anyway, she gave her a grin. "so, if i had told you this was my emo corner where i wanted to be sad and lonely, you wouldn't have left? i suppose i would have had to push you away..."

She laughed, Lucky charms are just, little things that you think bring you luck." She continued laughing for a while, she had not really ever talked normal to anyone before, yes there were plenty of other Irish children at the school but she just found that she was different and did not want to be in any sort of category. But since he had already heard it she figured that she could talk normal in front of him. I feel like you take my accent as funny laddie, i should hurt you but I have more class." she laughed, it has been a while since she had used her normal voice it was hard to get used to it, but also very nice to just be herself in front of someone. She didn't really know why she was so worried about it, she was just weird like that.
She laughed when he said it was his emo corner, "Well now see if you told me that I would have just given you a lecture and told you there was no need because i will be your friend and if you pushed me away I would have fought back and annoyed you by staying." she said, Evelyn was the sort of person where if you pushed her away or told her to go away she would stay until you where forced to either deal with it or hurt her. Most guys would not hit a girl but some would, and if she felt it getting to that point she would leave; she wasn't an idiot, just determined. She looked at him, he was pretty funny, and scary all at the same time. His curly hair made him cute and boyish at the same time, so many things mixed where dangerous.
"Well then Mr Goyle, tell me about yourself since you are sitting here enjoying my company." she said smirking at him, she had a fun time trying to get people to crack and be themselves around her but for some reason she felt like she did not need to in this case, which was nice. She was sure this would probably be their only encounter, he probably did not want his friends knowing that he was friends with a hufflepuff, but then again she knew a crabbe that was in Gryffindor. What a crazy situation this generation had turned out to be.

christian smiled, listening to the hufflepuffs laugh. it was pretty, unlike most of the laughter he heard from people in his house. they all laughed like something wicked had just gone down, an evil laugh. it bothered him sometimes, hearing the same exact thing from dozens of different people. "ah, like four leaf clovers?" he asked, remembering a time when he was in the backyard. he had been about six, and he found a four leaf clover. he was going to rip it up, but makenna had told him it was lucky, and said he should keep it. he ended up putting it in his pocket, and then forgot about it. he had never seen it after that. "i apologize for laughing, miss. y'don't hear accents like that one there very often." he replied, attempting to copy her accent, and failling miserably.
chris was startled when she said she would be his friend. they had just met, and usually people hated him at first meeting. it took time for him to grow on people. would he even be able to be friends with her? secretly, perhaps. he would have to try his best to hide the relationship from his friends. if they ever caught on, he would have to end it. "well, i'm sure glad i didn't say that then. because i never would have gotten rid of you if i had." he grinned at her, to let her know he was just kidding.
christian tapped his chin, trying to think of something to tell her. he really wasn't all that interesting, and most of the things he thought were cool about himself, were things he generally hid from people. everything that made him who he was, were things that people would tease him about if they ever found out. "well..i'm in my fifth year and a slytherin. i'm good at potions, rotten at herbology, and am very terrible at impersonating cute girls irish accents, apparently. oh, and when i was young, i said i was going to be a butterfly when i grow up. i'm still waiting for some colourful wings." most of the things he said could be taken as a joke. the butterfly thing was something people already knew, so it wouldn't harm him in the long run. "now, what about you miss finnigan? what are you like?"

She laughed as he tried to copy her, it was pretty bad but pretty cute. " Yes exactly like four leaf clovers. That is true but my nest friend when i was little was a wee old leprechaun." she said jokingly. Evelyn wished that there were leprechauns, maybe then she could have a bit more good luck. This turned out to be quite more interesting than she had thought it was. Talking in her accent and all this lucky charm talk made her think of home as a kid, she smiled while a picture of her giving her dad a four leaf clover she found as a wee little girl played, then moving to him framing it in the living room at the house; oh how she missed her father. She shook her head trying not to think of home.
She new that Christian's comment was a joke, she laughed a bit, " Aww that is not very nice you, you hurt my feelings." she said to him jokingly. She figured like most people he wouldn't want to be her friend anyway, especially since his friends scared her a bit. Oh well, eventually she will find friends. "Me? Oh I also like potions and hate herbology, aw you called me cute; that's cute kid" She cracked up at his last comment, a butterfly it sounded a little homo which may be why it was so funny to her." I love to be outside and break rules." she replied not really knowing what to tell the boy.

evelyn's accent still threw him off a bit, and he always had to think after she spoke now. he wished he still had that four leaf clover, so he could have some more lucky understanding her irish slang. still, the accent was pretty nice, and it was nice that she was able to be herself around him. it was only fair, since he was being himself around her. "what exactly is a nest friend? it sounds dirty..." he couldn't help the fact that his mind had been warped by the slytherins.
it was obvious that he was joking, and equally obvious that evelyn had picked up on that fact. good, he really hated it when people took everything he said offensively. he was rarely serious with his insults, but he did joke around a lot. so people who couldn't take the jokes really did not get along with him. "i'm just telling it as it is. the truth hurt." he tried to speak with as straight a face as possible. it was pretty interesting that she was good at the same subjects as he was. "do you also sleep during history of magic? i know i do." he said, making a face when she called him kid. "not a kid. only what, a year younger than you? hardly a difference." he hated it when people assumed he was childish and immature just because he was younger than them. a lot of people judged him on his age. fifteen year olds weren't all crazy immature. "break rules, hm? what kind of rules do you break?"
