"IT'S TIME TO FEEL THE RUSH,
TO PUSH THE DANGEROUS,
I'M GONNA RUN RIGHT TO,
TO THE EDGE WITH YOU."
* Please note-- this may be in his own words, but it's being translated by an interpreter. Fred Weasley was born deaf and is unable to speak. Therefore- he has someone here to speak for him.
"Pfft. This is lame. I guess I'll give in, though. I'm sixteen and my name is Fred Arthur Weasley II. The numeral is silent, but it's still there. Considering I was named after my uncle. Fred Weasley I. He died long before I was born. He was the twin of my father. Uncle Fred died during the Battle of Hogwarts, by an explosion. Apparently, my dad was never the same after that. And I don't blame him. Losing a twin would be devastating. I can't even imagine, because I would never want to lose my sister. And she's not even my twin. But I love her just the same. Also, for my middle name, I was named after my grandfather. A great and respectable wizard, despite the wizarding community's general opinion.
I was born deaf. And I'm not ashamed of it. Sign language is a beautiful language that other deaf people can learn, along with the hearing. If you don't understand what I'm signing, then my interpreter can tell you what I'm saying. However, if he's not with me, I can't really help you understand unless I act it out as charades. Which is totally fine with me! I love acting. So much fun! I'm also a wicked goofball. I'm always moving around and doing new things. I joke around a lot. If you're always taking me seriously, then I'm warning you now: don't. I kid around all the time, so get used to it. I was taught by the best - my father. Speaking of which! When I graduate, he's going to let me continue Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes. That's the joke shop that he and his brother opened up after they dropped out of Hogwarts a long while back.
About myself.. Well. I'm outgoing, helpful, funny, open, honest, and optimistic. Or, so I've been told. People keep letting me know that I am always smiling. I love to help people and I'm always mentioning the brighter side of the dark cloud. And I'm always willing to interact with people that wish to interact with me. A lot of people don't know how to act around me, or end up talking slower than they usually do. But I can lip-read. I'm not entirely on my own, just because I can't hear. I don't have a disease and I'm not sick. I'm deaf. Don't treat me differently than anyone else because of that. And, yes. I can dance. I'm able to feel the vibrations of music. Which I find is to be such a gift.
Do I wish to be like the hearing? To "fit in"? Of course not. I like the fact that I'm deaf. It makes me unique. At first, it was hard on my parents, because they needed to learn sign language and then had to teach myself and my sister. But we all got accustomed to it and now it's a big part of our family. Not all of my extended family, however, knows how to sign. But I suppose it's a "personal" choice. I don't care, really. I don't wish to put them in a difficult spot. I really don't like forcing people into doing things-- that's just not who I am. So if they wanted to learn, they did. And if they didn't, they didn't. That's that.
I only have my one sister who's younger, Roxanne Gemini Weasley. We're both really similar- we like telling jokes. But - we have our differences too. She's more likely to make jokes in serious situations. Yes, I'm always kidding around, but I know how to be serious. I guess you could say that my being older has something to do with that. But, hey, what can you do? Anyway. I have red hair just like my father and sister. But, I take on his skin colour more than my mother's. My father's extremely pale, due to him being a ginger. Whereas, my mother is of the African american heritage. So, Roxy and I are racially mixed. But, she's darker than I am. Not that that matters or anything. I have bright blue eyes that always sparkle when I smile.. Or so my mother tells me.
Other than all that stuff, I don't have much else to add. My interpreter's name is Greg. And he's one of my best friends, honestly. He's two years older than I am and is always there for me. But, don't get too attached, because sometimes they trade interpreters, and I never see previous ones again. But I appreciate each and every one, because it helps the hearing understand me even more. Which is a plus if I want to have a conversation. Granted, not many conversations can be personal, but that doesn't bother me. I may want a relationship, but I'm not going to let my interpreter get in the way. If any girl has a problem with it, then she can bring it up with me. And I won't hear her!"
